Tell me about Girl Guides!

Guiding programs run with the school year, from about mid September to May/June. We are now registering girls for the 2018/2019 Guiding year, which begins in September 2018. We have programing for all ages of girls: Sparks are ages 5 & 6 (Kindergarten/Grade 1), Brownies 7 & 8, Guides 9 – 11, Pathfinders 12 – 14, and Rangers ages 15 – 17. If you would like to read more details about the programs, please click here.

How do I join?

Girl Guides of Canada handles the bulk of girl registration online. To check for Units near you, and/or to register, go to the registration page, please click here.

Use your postal code on the Unit Finder to find a Unit close to you. The finder will show you a map with Trefoils (blue clover-looking icons) and clicking on them will give more information on that Unit, including the Unit name, day of the week, time, and the name and address of the facility where they are meeting. There is a link in that pop up box which says, “click here for more information or to register,” where you can get a few more details, and you can register right from there if you wish, by clicking on “new girl,” which appears in the bottom left hand corner. The online system only accepts credit card or PayPal.

The Unit finder map by default only shows Units that still have space available for registration. To place your daughter on a wait list for a full unit, chose “show all units” from the options on the right hand side. The full unit will appear and you can place her on the waitlist by completing all the registration information. Don’t forget to click “Done, proceed to checkout” where you will confirm placement on the waitlist. You will not be charged for placing your daughter on a waitlist. If a space becomes available, you will be notified by email and will have 3 business days to complete the registration.

The registration system will look at how old your daughter will be on December 31st to determine which “branch” (Sparks, Brownies, Guides etc.) your daughter would be in. Sparks are ages 5 & 6 (Kindergarten/Grade 1), Brownies 7 & 8, Guides 9 – 11, Pathfinders 12 – 14, and Rangers ages 15 – 17.

If you have any difficulties with the online system, please contact our Edmonton office at 780-451-2263. During the registration season, our phone lines can be very busy, so if you do not get through, please leave a detailed message and we will return your call as quickly as possible.

The only other method to register is by paper application and paying by cash or cheque. This takes a little more time and the Unit may continue to fill from online registration in the extra time it takes to transport documents from the parents to the office. This is why parents are encouraged to register online whenever possible. If you do need to register by paper, please contact the Edmonton Area office at 780-451-2263 or by emailing

What does it cost?

The registration fee is $120.00 for the year. There are also costs throughout the year for extra circular activities like fieldtrips, sleepovers and camps which are determined by the leaders. Your daughter will also require a uniform, which is available from our online store (click here).

Where to buy uniforms

Uniforms are available from our online store (click here). There are no physical stores across the country – all products are accessed online.

Unit start dates

Start dates for your daughter’s Unit should be available in your family account (click here) near the end of August. Simply login into your family account with the email and password you created. Choose “check the start date for my unit(s)” and any start dates in our system will be listed beside the unit(s) that you’ve registered your daughter(s) in.

Alternatively, most Guiders will send out an email to their registered girls’ parents, introducing themselves and letting them know of the Unit start date and any other important information. If there is no start date listed for you Unit on the Unit Finder, and your Unit Guider has not contacted you by September 10th, please contact the office at 780-451-2263 or by emailing

Contact a leader

Alberta Privacy laws prohibit our organization from giving out the contact information of its volunteers. We can however pass your contact information along to a Unit’s Contact Guider and request that they contact you. If you wish to do this, please email

Please note that this does not work for emergency situations. If you have an emergency and need to contact your Unit’s Leader, please contact the office by phone at 780-451-2263. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to contact your Unit Leader in short notice. The office also does not have information on Unit activities on any given date.

Most Leaders give their parents their contact information early in the year. Please save this information for those occasions when you need to talk to your daughter’s Unit Leader(s).
